Biogen Inc. and Stoke Therapeutics, Inc. have just announced a partnership agreement to co-develop and market zorevunersen, a treatment for Dravet syndrome, a rare genetic epilepsy.


With the deal, Bedford-based Stoke retains exclusive rights for zorevunersen in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and Biogen receives exclusive commercialization rights elsewhere globally.


Stoke will receive $165 million up front, with shared development costs. Additionally, the company may receive up to $385 million in development and commercial milestone payments, and will also be eligible to receive tiered royalties. Read more about the deal as reported by STAT.

Active Surfaces (34 Commerce Way, Woburn) was recently featured in The Boston Globe. The startup has developed an ultra-thin, lightweight, and flexible solar cell designed as an alternative to traditional solar panels. According to The Globe, Active Surfaces’ perovskite power cells produce almost as much electricity as silicon cells of the same surface area, with simpler and more cost-efficient installation. Tadeu Carneiro (left), CEO of Boston Metal (6 Gill Street, Woburn), recently visited the company's subsidiary Boston Metal do Brasil, where construction is well underway for the first commercial deployment of its molten oxide electrolysis (MOE) technology for high-value metals production. Powered by electricity, Boston Metal's platform technology is decarbonizing steelmaking and transforming how metals are made.

Congratulations to VEIR (3 Gill Street, Woburn), a leader in superconducting power delivery, on the successful closing of an oversubscribed $75 million Series B. The investment will accelerate VEIR’s commercialization efforts for its innovative solutions serving data centers, utilities, and renewable energy developers.


In a press release, CEO Tim Heidel said, “The entire electricity value chain needs to grow quickly to meet the infrastructure and power demands of data centers for AI, renewable generation, power grid expansion and to support broader societal goals for electrification, manufacturing growth, and energy resilience. VEIR is solving these challenges with innovative designs that replace conventional solutions, enhance existing infrastructure with superconductor technology, and eliminate the restrictions that typically delay the delivery of power density necessary for data center buildouts, global decarbonization, and grid resilience.”

SeromYx Systems (299 Washington Street, Woburn) welcomes new CEO Andrew Ball, Ph.D., an experienced life sciences industry leader with a strong track record in assay development and commercialization. His expertise will be instrumental as SeromYx continues advancing its platform for vaccine and antibody therapeutic development.


Seromyx co-founder Piers Whitehead is stepping down as CEO and will remain an integral part of the team as a board member and strategic advisor.

Spear Bio (100 TradeCenter, Woburn) has been named one of the 2025 BostInno "Startups to Watch."


Spear has developed a novel approach to ultra-sensitive biomarker detection. Its Successive Proximity Extension Amplification Reaction (SPEAR) technology was invented at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University.

Biotech and cleantech startup incubator InnoVenture Labs (100 Cummings Center, Beverly) welcomes general manager Stacy Ames.


Stacy is an experienced technology manufacturing business owner who focused on solving material and performance challenges for commercial industry. As the former Ward 3 City Councilor and current North Shore Bank Corporator, she has deep roots in the community and a history of building bridges and collaborative continuous improvement.
