Morphoceuticals is the latest life sciences company to join Emerging Tech Center, a hub of small laboratory suites at 200 Boston Avenue in Medford. Morphoceuticals targets native bioelectrical and biochemical pathways to develop novel therapies that access core aspects of the biological operating system.

Headquartered in Singapore, Curiox Biosystems is expanding its U.S. presence and will soon move to a larger suite at 400 West Cummings Park, Woburn. Curiox applies its scientific and engineering expertise in surface chemistry and life science instrumentation toward the goal of overcoming critical challenges that slow the pace of life sciences research.

Reuters reports that Ghana has become the first country in the world to approve a new malaria vaccine, from Oxford University, a potential step toward fighting the mosquito-borne disease. Malaria kills more than 600,000 people each year, most of them children in Africa.
According to Oxford scientist Adrian Hill, this is the first time a major vaccine has been approved in an African country ahead of rich nations. "Particularly since COVID, African regulators have been taking a much more proactive stance, they've been saying...we don't want to be last in the queue," he said.
According to Reuters, it is unclear when the vaccine may be rolled out in Ghana as other regulatory bodies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), are still assessing its safety and effectiveness. Read more.

Yesterday, Sunflower Therapeutics celebrated its 100th day in operation at its lab and office suite at 200 Boston Avenue, Medford. Sunflower is a unique biotech company founded to increase access to vaccines and other new biologic medicines through the development of next-generation manufacturing technologies. The company operates as a public benefit corporation.

Michael Schrader, co-founder and CEO of Vaxess Technologies was a presenter at the recent World Vaccine Congress. Michael spoke about how Vaxess’ sustained release patch technology has the potential to fundamentally change how numerous vaccines are distributed and administered, and shared phase 1 clinical results from Vaxess’ patch-based influenza vaccine. Vaxess is headquartered in Cambridge with a GMP manufacturing facility at Cummings Park in Woburn.
