Yesterday, Bedford, MA-based Lantheus Holdings announced its acquisition of Meilleur Technologies, Inc. of Ohio. In acquiring Meilleur, a provider of imaging biomarkers for neurological pathologies, Lantheus now has the worldwide exclusive rights to PET imaging agent NAV-4694, expanding its Alzheimer's disease pipeline. Currently located in Lexington, iSpecimen will relocate to a new office at 8 Cabot Road, Woburn. The company offers an online marketplace for human biospecimens, connecting scientists in commercial and nonprofit organizations with healthcare providers that have access to patients and specimens needed for medical discovery.

Science from Scientists will soon be located at Tower Office Park in Woburn. The nonprofit organization's mission is to teach and inspire the next generation to identify and solve real-world problems by improving Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) literacy.
Using charismatic, real scientists as instructors, SfS aims to improve STEM competency with the goal of filling the workforce pipeline with talented, competent individuals. SfS is a Cummings Foundation grant recipient.

Congratulations to ZwitterCo (headquarters and Innovation Center at 12 Cabot Road, Woburn) for the successful close of its Series B funding round led by Evok Innovations. Evok was joined by DCVC, BHP, Munich Re Ventures, SiteGround, HG Ventures, and Blue Horizon Advisors.
ZwitterCo is transforming water treatment through advanced membrane technologies. The oversubscribed $58.4 million round will accelerate the company's mission to unlock the potential of unconventional water sources, such as industrial wastewaters and more challenging surface waters or process streams, to meet the massive water demands of industries that underpin a low-carbon future. Feon Energy, an advanced battery electrolyte startup that spun out of Stanford University is based at 150 New Boston Street, Woburn. The firm recently announced the closing of a $6.1 million seed round that will enable the development of next-gen batteries. The round was led by Fine Structure Ventures, with participation from Eight Roads, Foothill Ventures, MassVentures, EPS Ventures, and Valkyrie Fund.
According to a press release, the new funding will allow Feon to expand its world-class R&D team, scale up its high-throughput molecular discovery platform, and accelerate commercial engagement with leading battery and automotive players. |

InnoVenture Labs (100 Cummings Center, Beverly) member company Thiozen announced $3.2 million in funding for a clean hydrogen project in Alberta, Canada. Thiozen is the first company ever to produce clean hydrogen from "sour gas" waste streams. The company will use Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) funding to install its proprietary technology at a gas processing site in Alberta. Its platform will facilitate the "de-souring" – or removal – of hydrogen sulfide from the sour natural gas streams while simultaneously generating zero-emission hydrogen. The funding is part of an overall $57 million commitment by the Government of Alberta to support 28 projects that advance the hydrogen economy, reduce emissions, and create jobs. |

Congratulations to Tiba Biotech (78 Olympia Avenue, Woburn), which announced a new partnership with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), to develop groundbreaking therapeutics against influenza. Tiba Biotech's initial focus will be on developing a prototype RNAi-based therapeutic for H1N1 influenza that targets the highly conserved viral nucleoprotein and will be delivered via Tiba's RNABLTM platform. Kerry Love, founder, CEO, and president of Sunflower Therapeutics (200 Boston Avenue, Medford) was recently interviewed by Fox 25 News in a segment on BioBuilder's innovative science and engineering programs. Spun out of MIT, BioBuilder hopes to tackle the lack of accessibility to science programs by bringing curricula to high schools.
Sunflower recently hired its second program participant, Kevin Fuentes, a graduate of Tufts University who participated in the BioBuilder program at Malden High School. Love said, “I think you get the most innovative solutions when you have a diverse workforce working on it.” |
